ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
In 1999, Mr. Désir migrated to the United Stated and was a seasonal choreographer for the Harambee Dance Ensemble at Barry University in Miami Shores, FL. And also for Ayizan Kréyòl, a Haitian dance troop in Miami FL. Mr. Désir arrived in Chicago Illinois in the year 2000, with a traditional Haitian band called “Asakivle” with whom he has performed and taught at many Chicagoland elementary schools and high schools. This Same year, he met with Mr. Alfred Baker, the artistic director of the West Indian Folk Dance Company, one of Chicago’s most talented and vibrant dance companies where he has taught Afro-Haitian and Dunham Technique. This company inspired him to take up permanent residence in Chicago. He has since taught many workshops and has done choreography for the Najwa Dance Corp. Mr. Désir has also landed a job with the Hedwig Dances, teaching Afro-Haitian contemporary dance at the Chicago Cultural Center. Currently, Mr. Désir teaches Latin dances at Triton College located in River Grove, Illinois since the year 2000. Mr. Désir is truly emerging as a star in the Chicago Dance community. He consider dance as “a gift of God and it must be executed to honor whom who have created it. This fusion of the body and soul allows me to attain my mental and moral stability through discipline and also to develop my sense of the expression of beauty and creativity. For me dancing is not only a way to entertain the audience or a way to help them escaping their constraints and disappointments, but to help them understand the universal events of life.” In the year 2001, Mr. Désir founded his own dance company, the “Tamboula Ethnic Dance Corp”. His works are an unpredictable fusion of ethnic dance disciplines, modern and contemporary blended with traditional Haitian folk dances and rhythms, accentuated by religious symbolism. This unique form of dance mesmerizes dance professionals and audiences alike. Mr. Désir’s desire is to create a body language that outpours an expression of the sentiments of human life in this confusing world. (View my resume) |
